The latest from the Tomintoul team

At Tomintoul we have been overwhelmed and delighted by the amount of people who have been sending us pictures of where they enjoy to drink our Gentle Dram. So we decided to launch a brand new competition, to encourage everyone to share their pics of Tomintoul Whisky with us.

All you have to do to enter is share your picture of Tomintoul on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, using #timefortomintoul, and like and share our posts ofcourse! Over the next 4 weeks we’ll be looking at all the entrants, then we’ll pick a winner and announce it on the 20th December.

The lucky winner will get a truly “money can’t buy” prize! A trip for two to the Tomintoul Distillery, where they will enjoy a VIP guided tour and whisky tasting lunch, all with our legendary Master Distiller Robert Fleming. They will then enjoy an overnight stay at a luxury Highland Hotel, in the stunning Speyside region of Scotland. It’s a trip of a lifetime and a dream for any Tomintoul fan.

The Tomintoul Team will be sampling a wide range of our single malts at Whisky Live in Den Haag from the 16th to 18th November. 

This incredible event takes place in the beautiful Great Church in Den Haag, and is a must for all whisky lovers. 

Our team will be sampling the whole Tomintoul range which includes our peated range Peaty Tang, including the new award winning 15 Year Old.

We are delighted to announce the release of an incredibly rare new Tomintoul - our Vintage 1973 Double Wood Matured, aged 45 years.

Only 218 bottles have been produced.

This single malt has been selected not only because of its rarity of age but, very significantly, because it is the result of a careful “finishing” process by which our whisky began by resting for more than three decades of ageing in the finest white-oak American casks before being transferred into a hogshead cask originally used to mature Oloroso Sherry in Spain. Finally, after a generous period of time in Sherry wood it was deemed that the time was right to make it available to lovers of excellent whisky.

Available in selected European and Asian markets world wide with an RRP of circa £2000.

 

Tasting notes

Colour: Deep amber

Nose: Clean Sherry influence on a sweet malty layer. Intense waxy aromas merge with hints of orange citrus and Christmas pudding.

Palate: Richly mouth-filling as notes of nuts, chocolate, mocha coffee bean and spicy oak tannins vie for supremacy.

Finish: Dry and spicy with a rich and enduring finalé.

This weekend our Brand Ambassador Iain was at the whisky show WhiskyNet in Budapest, sampling a fine selction of the Tomintoul range.

"Tomintoul Blizzard" is a simple and delicious cocktail created by our Brand Ambassador Iain and inspired by the harsh winters at the distillery.

Ingredients

 

  • 3 x measures (75ml) Tomintoul T’lath Single Malt
  • 1 x measure (25ml) Cranberry juice
  • 2/3 measure (17ml) Lemon juice
  • 1 measure (25ml) Sugar syrup

Method

Add the ingredients together in a shaker with ice and shake vigorously until frost forms. Decant the cocktail into a highball glass and garnish with raspberries and brambles.              

Alternatives

  • You can always add a little more sugar syrup to soften the cocktail.
  • Experiment with the garnish- cranberries and blueberries work a treat!
